Do it, but as a cautionary tale aside: I did this once with my dad, I was 15, he was 45. I was fine and got stronger, he got stronger and then blew out his shoulder.

Blowing out your shoulder doesn't happen from one rep to the next. Just listen to your body and stop when necessary.

Yes, I think it was a situation of feeling young of mind and not accepting the body not being as young as it once was in terms of recovery time needed. 45 is still the prime of life, but some recovery time and warming up and cooling down is smart to do.
