'normalize crap quality video' is a meme that people are going to apply indiscriminately.
low quality means bad connection or expensive bandwidth. good that there is any video, bad that it's not a good connection. making it into a hipster pissing contest is stupid.
also, being that i'm currently over 1000km away from any part of europe, and i have 1gbit internet here, and the mobile internet services here deliver 30mbit/10mbit which is enough to stream at least 720p.
there is few places in the world now where you have less than 10mbit of upload bandwidth. even most of african urban areas you can stream 720p.
all of the people living in poor countries where such bandwidth is available, but just expensive at their wage rates, will find such parochialism offensive.
