The closer a person gets to the light, the greater the shadow they cast.
Dishonorable, dishonest, gremlin-humans prefer to lurk in the shadows, so people who have moved closer to the spotlight often wind up with scavengers seeking to bite a pound of flesh from their backsides. Understandably, dealing with all of those mosquito people gets irritating and burdensome.
Essentially, this is the psychology of the genius tortured by the stupidity of the masses. Bitcoin is an anomaly because in Bitcoin, consensus is important for establishing truth but that's not at all how the real world works. At one point, Galileo was right and everyone else was wrong. At one point, Ramanujan was right and everyone else was wrong. Truth does not proceed upon consensus, but often times the idiot masses appeal to the bandwagon logical fallacy and the genius is tragically dismissed.
If the term "tragedy of the commons" didn't already mean something, I would suggest that that term is perfectly applicable to this pattern.
