As much as I would love to see that, there is not enough revenue that the can generate here, compared to YT (if their channel is sufficiently big) πΆπΎπ«‘
PSA: let's try not to promote YouTube on Nostr at all. We have nostr.build and flare.pub for hosting video media.
If content creators aren't going to put their videos on Nostr, then fuck em, we'll do it for them.
Use this app to rip videos from YouTube, Twitter, or pretty much any other site:
https://github.com/deniscerri/ytdlnis/releases/tag/v1.7.1
Then use this app to compress the video for upload:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.aravi.compressor
If the file is under 100MB, you can upload it to Flare.
If it's larger, or if otherwise you just want it to play natively in most Nostr clients, you can upload it to nostr.build. You'll need a paid Nostr build account to upload large files, but you should have one of those anyways, fren. If you've been a Nostr build freeloader up until now, well now you have another reason to support them.
Fuck YouTube. Don't give them more traffic when we can host media natively on Nostr. LFG! πβ‘π
Discussion
No competition yet. It's not the monetization model however, but rather a matter of scale. 10k daily active users vs 120M daily active users.
Yeah, it's not realistic to expect content creators to be nostr-only in general. Even the middle/biggish 20, 30,40k followers on twitterx struggle to make a living, can't convince them to join nostr with 10k users in total, who may or may not even care about their particular topic/project.
perhaps more realistic to promote multi-platform publishing with nostr as an option. not sure if that already exists?
Nostr marketed in the short term to people like this as the perfect 'just in case i get deplatformed again' option(?)
