I remember someone describing nostr to me early on, and I was like "Why doesn't it have deterministic key generation, expiration, and invalidation? You are tying your identity, reputation, and entire social graph to a small piece of information you keep on your phone, and you have to rebuild all of that if that information is ever leaked or lost."

Yep.. So what are your thoughts on it now?

I think it is a hassle.. sure.. trade-offs everywhere.

I think it will eventually come. There are NIPs related to this problem set. Bitcoin started out just as rough. You used to have to carefully back up all of your wallet.dat files, because the client just randomly magicked up keys that were unrelated to each other. Now we have seeds.
