What are the good ways to secure your private keys against a hurricane or tornado? Potential of water/high winds taking everything and displacing it in the ocean or miles away.
Discussion
Geographically distributed, multi-vendor multisig.
Download VeraCrypt.
Create an encrypted container using AES256 and a strong password you'll remember.
Store keys as text in container.
Upload container to cloud hosting of your choice.
That seems like a bad decision and a risky click. Putting seed phase on the cloud? Might as well use Ledger backup
I'm not sure what you mean by risky click. It's well-known FOSS software that's been maintained for years and highly regarded by the security community.
You'd be the only one in possession of the AES key, and as far as I know, AES hasn't been pwnd yet...

Thanks for the info! I always am on the side of paranoia and caution about private keys. This is my one shot at a once in a lifetime moment, donโt want to mess it up
Good for a fire! But if itโs a tornado hits and sends it 1 mile in any direction I probably wonโt ever see it again.
Get 2 or 3.. and if you keep thinking like that you will never back it up.. do you think loading it up to someone else computer is a better option
No I donโt think computer is better.
Probably trusted family/friends or lawyers one day for geographic split
If you go deep Depp in you can set a Deadman switch lol but that's very advanced lol
Sounds too deep atm ๐
Iโm trying to think of all the what ifs for natural disasters near me and for protection while I travel. Whats the best way to hide and secure vs a break in
So bluewallet let's you make a fake wallet just incase of a break in.. also some wallets like Phoenix has this emergency close out tgat it will just send your funds to a dedicated btc address and you funds will be secure
Keep you seed phrase off any cloud.. thats a big no no.. please do not upload your seed phrase to any cloud ๐๐๐
Memorize them or multi-sig stored in different locations.
Tattoo it on your penis ๐

No one will ever see his private key but him. I like it.
Tell that to a divorce lawyer... XD

Iโm getting roasted in the chat on my own question ๐๐๐๐
Just keeping Nostr weird ๐
I'm just impressed these guys think that private key will fit.

This is the way
People are their own worst eney.... It's definitely possible to over-complicate and overthink it too much, and end up losing your stash trying to be all Macgyver about it.
90%+ of people would be secure with just pen and paper.
Very true!
Stamp seed phrase to washers. Bolt washers to cement pier block. Bury pier block somewhere identifiable by other landmarks or gps (assume it may end up further undergroud at some point.)
Not likely to shift much, even less likely if you can bury in a root mass of an old tree.
either multi signature, with one or two individuals you trust, or store it in any any of the clouds, HEAVILY CODED
I've trained myself in morse code and REVERSE CODES that whatever I code cannot be cracked by a mere human, even those who can solve Rubix easily and ones with very high IQ's
I don't want to reveal my coding tactics, as hackers are lurking everywhere and reading this would give them a tip, but here's what you can do:
make a code of your own by writing codes from A-Z, example:
A for Jennifer, your #1 person
B for Julius, your eldest
C for Troy, your German Shepherd
D for Tonio's Steak House, your 1st date
etc
store your A-Z codes in a safe place or in a cloud and label it as a grocery shopping list, bucket list, thanksgiving list, Santa list - create your own!!
mine is simpler though, and alpha-numeric, based on military secret coding and ethical hacking techniques so even if the hacker knows how to decode the military way, they still need to reverse all over again and again, until they go crazyballs and give up. for the spaces, use one, two or three characters like #&%ฯโ!ยถ etc or use those characters in your A-Z codes
the important thing is, when you code and decode, USE PEN AND PAPER!! because it's a tedious task lol
Coding and decoding is always done using pen and paper, NEVER ONLINE, with your cam covered in black adhesive electrical tape
an ideal coded mnemonic seed phrase cannot be decoded without the hackers getting their heads split into many parts, giving up on it eventually
tell your bitcoiner friends and fam to code their seed phrases before storing them
yes, give them hackers hell and enjoy the fruits of your mining adventure!

Never store your cold storage bitcoin seeds in the cloud.
One possible solution is sparrowโs border wallet.
Seems easier to memorize a pattern instead of 12 or 24 words.
I like that as a possible escape temporary solution. Itโs very cool
