I find myself approaching the last years of my 30ies and I want to learn some music theory and piano.
I used to play a bit of guitar (mostly for douchebaggy stuff at parties), but the piano always was fascinating to me.
Is there a pianist on Nostr who can recommend what to do and what not do? Are there any resources to start learning all by myself?

Learn some chords (major and minor) and then use them to play some of your favorite songs. That’s a great way get started and have fun. For music theory, start by learning what chords make up the major and minor keys. And learn some intervals. I used YouTube when I started, but it’s full of slop/click content now. I’d suggest getting a few lessons in person. Anyway, lmk how it goes - tag me if you have any questions. I’ll help you out for free. I’m a musician and songwriter. And oh yeah last point, you gotta start to develop your musical ear. Greatest strength as a musician imo

As for music theory, I found a great italian youtuber that 12 years ago uploaded a buttload of great content, I'm learning a lot.
As for chords, I still have to dip my toe, not sure how to approach it yet. I have veeeery little background with a guitar and I know some chords just to strum a couple of songs. I guess for piano it will be the same?
As for developing the ear, since you're so kind to offer to help, what do you suggest I begin? I have terrible ear right know, I can't tell a C from a E even if somebody paid me 3btc to do so lol
There are 12 major chords and 12 minor chords consisting of triads (three notes). Learn how to play all of them using one hand on the piano. That way, when you look up a chord chart for a favorite song, you can pretty quickly play the chords. Practice moving between chords with your eyes closed too! Just get pretty comfortable switching between chords, like you do on guitar
For ear training, I wouldn’t even worry about being able to call out the pitch of a note by hearing it. This skill is cool but most musicians don’t have it, though it can be developed (relative pitch). What is far more useful: being able to heard a chord, and recognize “oh that’s a major chord”. And then find it on the piano after a few tries. If you can do that, you’ll be able to figure out the chords of songs just by listening to them.
So I dipped my toe in chords and how to construct them, very cool (with the guitar I only followed tabs, never took it too seriously).
