APOCALYPSE ANONYMOUS by

ATOSHI ANARKOMOTO

Climbing the steep steps of El Castillo at Chichen Itza was once a thrilling experience, offering panoramic views of the ancient Mayan city.

The pyramid, also known as the Temple of Kukulcán, features 91 steps on each of its four sides, reflecting the 365 days of the year. However, climbing the pyramid was officially banned in 2006 due to safety concerns and the need to preserve the structure.

The increased foot traffic had caused wear and tear, threatening the integrity of this UNESCO World Heritage site.

The ban ensures that future generations can continue to appreciate the pyramid's grandeur while protecting its historical value...

Fortunate enough to have climbed before the ban, amazing experience and beautiful location.

Amazing 🤩. Very lucky to do that. They ban everything these days. I climbed Ayres Rock in Australia years ago, that is banned now too.

Same. Also climbed the steps of the older pyramid underneath it. Those steps were in a narrow cramped passage.
