I have been spending time in the woods and dunes, no mountains close to me.
Oooh dunes! What do you do in the dunes?
Mostly hiking. These dunes are mostly forested. Open areas have sand cherries for foraging. These tough shrubs will establish on very windy and sandy locations allowing other things to get going.
I collected a bunch of pits to plant on my property.
