Well when I say deep cultural relevance and tradition, the carving of a pumpkin is an ancient Celtic tradition just with pumpins instead of turnips. The day is the celebration of the autumn equinox. Christmas, whether you look at the ancient pagan roots of many of the traditions, or the Christian focus, is very symbolic and meaningful. Same with easter. The more recent and nation specific holidays, thanksgiving, 4th of July, all anneversarial and steeped in national pride and tradition to commemorate something important.

New years is kind of an arbitrary day. I feel it is in the same vein as valentines day or black Friday. It's just a silly thing for getting drunk IMO.

Don't get me wrong, I still get giddy watching my odometer roll over. It's cool and fun. It's just, I know there's no real meaning in it.
