Here are some alternatives. I haven't used them, though. Looks like Zettlr is a favorite.

I use Joplin currently.

How does Obsidian make money anyways?

They run a hosting service if you want to upload notes or sync them, but you can use anything else for syncing like Syncthing

I would just keep them in my nextcloud
