One interesting thing about Japan is that the culture many of us grew up in where we could roam free as kids is (at least as it is apparent to me) largely intact here.

Kids are less supervised than their western counterparts. You see kids in parks on their own, little ones going to and from school with no adults in sight. Pretty much a similar circumstance I grew up in - out in the morning, in at night without supervision. Perhaps it’s not that lenient but certainly feels a lot more relaxed than what I’ve seen in the states.

Oh, your in Japan like Fishcake? And I think that’s how it should be, if it’s safe, unfortunately the USA just isn’t

nostr:npub1r0rs5q2gk0e3dk3nlc7gnu378ec6cnlenqp8a3cjhyzu6f8k5sgs4sq9ac when I was growing up too in the states, kids were aloud to go around on they’re bikes and leave and stay out all day on non school days. but now some parents won’t even let they’re kid into the front yard without them coming too.

We use to have religion grounding out people to moral principles. But the states are so large and fragmented we lost it as a cultural value.

Maximum freedom without morals brings abundant degeneracy. Which explains almost every corrupt aspect of America. From our money and markets stealing wealth and incentivizing rent seeking, to our perverted sexual revolution that has done nothing to make anyone more free and only progressed a culture of pedophilia and sexual crimes. #Bitcoin fixes this.

The trade off for maximum freedom ... but you are right.

Normally making big piles of leaves

even in the big cities? 💜

Having grown up in the country I thought this was the norm. But in big US citys I could see why parents would watch their kids like a hawk. Kinda sad really.

I keep reading that kids are not allowed to chill outside anymore, but I wonder is that just self enforcement from select parents or are the parents actually getting in trouble?

Yes, I’ve read newspaper stories of parents arrestedfor kids being outside unsupervised, but the fact that a story like that becomes national news, makes me think it’s not that common, as it is intended to be a shocking news story to all the readers.

So is this actually real? Can we stop it by just doing what we want? Does it vary by region?

Would you say this is true of both urban and rural areas?

Different threat models, but also different growth opportunities

I feel like the Scandinavia is somewhat similar to what you’re saying about Japan
