Is setting up a Bitcoin Node worth the ~$500 commitment?

The rasbpi and associated hardware is not cheap. I’m leaving no - can anyone help convince me otherwise or point me in a cheaper direction ?

Use your existing hardware, any pc or laptop.

Thanks, I’ll have to look into this. Can you just download it, or do you recommend wiping clean first for security reasons?

If you plan on making it your main dedicated node, then wiping may be better. You can just download it though. Just look up bitcoin core and you’ll find plenty of tutorials. Full node requires about 500gb and increasing. Pruned node if you’re limited on storage.

I have been investigating the possibility of using a used Intel NUC from eBay, buy a new drive and you can run circles around the PUI for maybe $100-150.
