The crux of the essay about the stages of development:

Useful products for:

Friends and communities first.

Social networks second.

Public squares come later.

What underpins everything here is the usefulness of the product or platform. We can’t rely on the “social” element because it it’s that alone, we’ll lose. That has to be a BONUS to a fantastic product that has high utility.

Highlighter has to be better than Substack.

Satlantis has to be better than TripAdvisor.

Primal has to be better than X.

Not because of Bitcoin and Nostr, but of their own accord (irrespective of Bitcoin & Nostr).

The Bitcoin & Nostr advantage is cream on top and is our LONG TERM advantage. Not the short term play IMO.

What Big Tech centralized platforms have going for them is network effect. Not much else. Nostr apps should focus on providing value to users and let network effect take care of itself.
