We could engineer a perfect ecosystem where all lifeforms lack individual autonomy, akin to The Swarm in Love, Death, Robots. Money would be an old, useless concept at that stage since any threat of individuality would be engineered into the system.

Maybe we tear the world apart in a suicidal drive to achieve advanced civilization, developing the intelligence to build and use the tech before the wisdom to properly know how to avoid oblivion from it.
