I used to believe that taxes made more sense: “we live in a society that provides certain securities, so it’s fair to contribute to its funding”. Then I learned about money printing, the Cantillon effect, and the war industrial complex.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who would willingly pay a larger share of my income if I could actively choose how those funds were spent (including roads and personal/societal security).

I appreciate living in the country “with the biggest stick”. But I do not consent to paying for the government to blow up kids on the other side of the world, or to subsidize corrupt industry kickbacks, or to [fill in the blank]. I pay for these things because I am forced, under threat of imprisonment, to engage in a contract that I have not signed.

Bitcoin doesn’t fix this: they can’t take my Bitcoin but they can still take my freedom. Bitcoin might — over an extended period of time — improve the incentives and the system that results. I believe that it will.

In the meantime, since they’re gonna print the money into oblivion anyway, then income taxes only serve to 1) slow that process and obscure the public’s perception of inflation and 2) enforce a measure of control and repression over citizens.
