As it should be. It’s a way better experience (most of the time) in my opinion.
There are some places I do that for to save on fees.
Yup. Not only that those platforms charge restaurants obscene commissions and fees there seems to be a strict time limit before an order is ready for pickup by a driver. Many restraurants also mark up the prices on online orders to help absorb the costs, so the prices may be lower if you went there in person and ordered to go.

real story:
yesterday we placed an online delivery order with a local restaurant, it was "cancelled" 20 minutes later
we called the same restaurant by phone and made the same order, they said it would be ready for pickup in 10 minutes
