Coherence of identities => happiness

In the modern world, any person contains different #identity structures, e.g. farmer, husband, Christian. Each identity structure is a bundle of a view of the world, a view of the self, social #relationships and #values.

#Happyness can be found in the recognition, unfolding and alignment of your multiple identities. This is called "identity coherence".

The opposite of coherent identities is #neurosis. This is initiated by the inability to either serve the needs of an important identity or getting lost in one particular #identity. Identity strucrures break down or contradicting identities interfere with each other leading to emotional distress.

Widespread neurosis is a phenomenon of modernity as it allowed for only by sufficient wealth and individual liberty. Anna Karenina as described by Leo #Tolstoy is an excellent example of a neurotic person in the #literature.
