when i have first found out that Hans Zimmer had declined the opportunity to write a score for Nolan's Tenet, i was somewhat surprised - these two were working quite tight over the course of several movies.

later, the new Dune movie came out. it had been an old dream of Zimmer's to write a musical score for it and so he did. you can only imagine my anticipation to hear it.

after watching the movie and listening to the soundtrack, it felt like i've missed something in it or, perhaps, that it was missing something. were my expectations set too high?

finally, out of the blue, Zimmer releases a companion book music album called The Art and Soul of Dune with this mesmerizing 28 minute long gem on it.

i think that this composition alone is enough to serve as the musical foundation for Dune despite being almost perfect ambient music.

"I have always loved the desert. One sits down on a desert sand dune, sees nothing, hears nothing. Yet through the silence something throbs, and gleams" - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
