I have a friend who knew him through RADA. She said he was irl moody and conflicted which he pumped into his characters.

Actors are mostly conflicted, he was a great talent, able to channel it superbly when needed

Interesting point. Musicians and comics (they are the worst) also. Very insecure but willing to risk their own self-perception for the sake of storytelling.
