one of the roles of the CIA in the U.S. is to identify technology trends, fund specific startups, and use information warfare, market manipulation, sabotage, or assasination to take out competition, with the end goal of maintaining State control of emerging technology. Many people still believe the CIA only does stuff like this in other countries, which is bad enough. But they dont really understand the core role of the CIA in the U.S.
