Very surprised at these results on X.
Maybe my perspective on history is different.
My perception is that statism started the day the 13 colonies (actually 12) signed the constitution. Rhode Island resisted central control.

Statism started with the Articles of Confederation but was given more teeth with the Consitution. The latter acknowledging that the people had rights which then be perpetually trampled on as the behemoth grew. We tolerate government because its less effort than performing the governance ourselves
I've thought about this some. I think that both the federalist and the anti-federalist were right in the core assumptions.
The federalist believing that we would never really have had a nation (that would last) if we didn't adopt some strong form of central government.
The anti-federalists believing that the central government would grow to be tyrannical.
Many make the assumption that one of those was the correct choice. But I think that maybe there is no right choice.
At any rate, even the federalists would be aghast today. Federalism is all but dead.
Which doesn't mean they're not still trying to kill what's left.
Eliminate the electoral college
Have congress oversee the supreme Court
Etc etc etc
