the problem is that everything east of croatia and hungary is actually the brandy homeland, palinka, rakija, ракия depending on which part, but it's much the same... spirit distilled from fruit wines (mostly plums) and greece their thing (and the turks) is ouzo (raki) which is basically vodka spiced with aniseed
