Downside (or upside depending on your view) of living away from people.

I like to learn new skills and start new hobbies. Getting into archery and bowhunting. The issue is there are now archery or bow shops within 100 miles of me. This means I also have to buy the equipment to work on my bow (vise, press, build a paper tuner etc)

Brightside is I am not reliant on others to fix my equipment, downside is time is limited and I'll be damned if it wouldn't be nice to pay someone for work/time I could use for other ventures and just enjoy shooting my bow and going in the woods.

YouTube is a powerful thing!

I try to fling a few arrows every day.

Enjoy the journey!

I'm looking forward to it, got lucky and Darton had the prelude 32 on sale for almost half off. Goal is at least 30 a day once it delivers and I get it tuned up

Nice! I got a used Bear bow about a year ago for $25 🤯 It’s a decent bow, like 5-7 years old. Good enough to learn on and tinker with, and figure things out before investing the money into a better set up.

I swapped the stings out myself and just got some new arrows.

It’s a good time!

Nothing wrong with Bear, if you ever need something to listen to they have a podcast of his field notes from hunts in Africa up to the Yukon. Good stories to listen to.

I got a 36 pack of fletched and crested zombie hunters today. Black eagle has them on clearance. 36 for $200

Thanks for the heads up, I’ll have to check it out! 🤙🏽

You're welcome new friend. I try to spend wisely and never pay retail if possible. Stay humble and stack but a quality bow, sights, arrows etc are an investment and valuable tools

Going to take the next year and practice before going out in the woods. I will not go after animals half asses and end up wounding one due to incompetence. Bad shots happen but I feel its best to do all you can to train and work to minimize it

This is why most rural folks have a side hustle, they just happen to be there person best at X closer than going to town.

My Da always would say "Poor folk have poor ways", when you can't afford to pay someone or no one is around you learn to do what needs getting done.

Many romanticise the rural lifestyle but how many of them understand the work involved to sustain it, yourself and your family.

No days off

True, but I know and trust my neighbors immensely more than when I lived in a high rise
