Exactly 11 years ago, we made the decision to move the servers hosting the open-source password manager Clipperz out of the US. We relocated them to Iceland and switched the domain from .com to .is.

At the same time, we went bankless and decided to only accept Bitcoin donations. In 2013.

The reason? We faced a barrage of attempted bank transfers originating from compromised bank accounts. Each transfer was worth 10K+ euros.

Of course, this resulted in numerous fraud accusations, lengthy and stressful interactions with law enforcement, and a significant risk of indictment and prosecution.

As of today, investigations led nowhere and both the culprit and the motive for the attack remain unknown.
