I personally don't understand why someone would want to kill the hashtag feature. In the social media data structure, where relational tables aren't that suitable, hashtags give posts a sense of belonging to categories while keeping the independence of being my own words.

Of course hashtags crammed in indiscriminately for marketing purposes are certainly a nuisance. In such a case, just parse the last # and recognize it as a hashtag. After all, it's usually bots that do such messy things, once they realize it's a futile effort, they will gradually start using only one hashtag.

If minimalism is sooo desirable and he wants to remove EVERYTHING, he'd better start by trimming his own messy and chaotic family tree that makes all family members unhappy.
