Zero Is A Special Number

When 0 is a potential outcome, and that represents something much more different from 1 than 1 is from 2, calculating optimal action is a different proposition than when 0 is equidistant. i.e. Actuarial risk assessment. Which is to say that protective parenting is not so bad a lean.

Ideally though of course it just comes naturally to a well raised parent.
