Not sure what you mean. There are only relays. You choose your relays to store events to, search in, where others reply to you and where others find your content and where they should leave DMs for you.

But there has to be some normal client/server implementation to make it usable. I don't want everything to disappear just because I was offline for few weeks or changed phone.
That's not the case. At all. You have the same content in all clients. Don't know what you're referring to.
(unless you use some specialized client like Olas).
