If the relay is only used to make backups, wouldn't it make more sense for clients to implement a feature to create offline backups? For instance, clients could download their personal data at predefined intervals and create a local backup. Or is this not possible?
It's possible but you can't serve notes. Private relays are not only a backup but an assurance that others can see it, and that other relays aren't censoring you
Ok makes sense, but if I understand correctly only one person can connect to the private relay you offer. Or is it built so that only one Npub can write, but everyone else can connect and read?
Yep anyone can read, but only you (or whoever you allow) can post
And when I start using the service, will all my existing notes be backed up or just new ones?
For now just new ones but hopefully I can figure out how to pull all the old ones!
