I think I need to be able to view the horizon to see the northern lights better? I have mountains 360°. Debating on driving somewhere else for a night.

Okay, I will try! The terrain here is intense and a lot of roads are dirt and I dont have a 4wd. I will ask my local friend what she thinks is the best option.
