On which platform do you buy btc? And why? Asking for a friend.

I would also be happy to know
Bisq and robosats for privacy (I've asked a friend 😅)
What is the difference between bisq and robosats?
the main differences (and similarities) are: Bisq is a standalone application and the transactions are onchain. Robosats is a website and works via lightning transaction. Both shows you a list of buy and sell order and you can pick the one that matches your desire. Both are non custodial and trusted.
So on robosats you get btc on lightning, so if you want to cold storage it, you have to make it on-chain, right?
correct.
yes. If you are using a custodial LN wallet you can send your sats on your cold storage using services like https://boltz.exchange/ (I'm not suggesting this one in particular, just linked it because is the first one that came into my mind)

That is what I’m talking about 🫡
In fact, I think #[3] is better setup for this. Send him a DM! 🐶🐾🫡
Nah, that is on you sir!
Bisq. Easy and private.
This is my DCA route to save fees.
Local CEX (Buy Stablecoin) > OKX/Fixedfloat (Swap to Lightning, No KYC) > Private Lightning Node. If the amount held in my lightning node is already quite big then Swap-out to Onchain Cold Wallet.
Huh, that seems quite the steps. What is the benefit of storing it on your lightning node, and not cold storage it directly? Are OKX and FixedFloat KYC-ed?
It is mainly due to limited option for my on-ramp route from my local fiat > USD > BTC. P2P (Bisq and Robosats) is not popular in my country. Not really complex honestly.
OKX doesn't have mandatory KYC. Non KYC account only need email (can use anon random email) and have 10 BTC daily withdrawal limit. Fixedfloat is instant exchanger, doesn't need account, doesn't need KYC. Most of the times i often to use Fixedfloat.
My lightning node is like my hot wallet. Because, i'm saving and occasionally spending my BTC on it.
Is that manual or auto? And there’s less fees? For example how much would the fees be for a $200 USD transaction to buy BTC?
I do bi-weekly or monthly manually. The fees are cheaper for me only need $1 (Stablecoin transfer, cheaper than BTC withdrawal fees around $10-15) + %0.5 of the amount (Swap fees in Fixedfloat)
Buy p2p. I use bisq or robosats, I’m done doing kyc to get my Sats.
That is my plan too! Just downloaded bisq, and trying to explore options.
Which one do you prefer and why?
I personally use robosats more than bisq. Mainly because it’s TOR browser based and I can access it on my phone. Bisq is desktop only, so if I have the time I’ll use bisq.
Can you use the same fiat solutions for both btw?
Most of them are the same I believe, I don’t remember exactly what ones are not available between the 2, but they have had all the ones I need. If I remember correctly I’m pretty sure bisq didn’t have cash app as an option, while robosats, I know it is. I’ve only done Amazon gift cards, haven’t tried any other payment option. Although it might make my orders get filled faster.
Thanks! Actually that is also a good question which fiat solution is the best. E.g. daily used bank account might not be good idea to hookup there, even though you can delete payment source after a certain time!
With Amazon gift card, you had to use the whole card to buy right? So you can't use only X% of it. But I guess you can only buy gift cards in smaller amounts, so might not be a problem.
Oh and robosats utilizes the lightning network which is a huge plus for me, makes it so much faster to close out orders. Bisq is all on chain.
TIL about Robosats! Didn't know there was a Tor browser based fiat on ramp similar to Bisq. I love Bisq but the biggest problem with it for me is having to run on desktop and it's very resource intensive even on new hardware.
Your post is creating a buzz.
