Thinking about spinning up a Bitcoin meet up in the rural area I am currently living.
Curious what are your favorite things about the meetups you attend?
What are the things you dislike?

best meetups: meeting with plebs to have food, drinks and talk about Bitcoin and nostr
shit meetups: meeting with plebs to listen to speakers talking about nation state adoption, strategic reserves, ETF inflows, regulation and wall street.
Yes. Sounds like a horrible meeting. Mass user adoption is a nice dream, but it's not happening in my lifetime. I'll probably be dead in 20 years, just gonna spend the rest of it using btc to subvert the banks and the state. Fuck the govt, and keep your hands off my anarchist money. These Trump knob-slobbers can get rekt too lol.
Meetups are a bad idea as long as the pandemic continues. The worst thing about the ones I see about here is they talk about it online, as having people from miles around at a gathering doesn't make it even worse. Thus you're doing it wrong so far
*as if
What pandemic are you talking about?
If you can't stop trying to kill yourself and everything around you, just kill yourself faster instead of wasting my time with your disgusting diseased presence.
Wtf are you talking about? What pandemic?
Refer to my previous reply or learn to stop gaslighting.
You just said "the pandemic" and I'm not sure what you're talking about
This is why nostr needs auto-replies. This dude might just keep replying, as if I'm supposed to assume he's somehow posting from a device with no search engine instead of noticing this is disingenuous bullshit meant to waste my time and chip away at the mental health of everyone reading, including me.
Refer back to this for any further inquiry - nostr:note1kcs5snyyza8jtm765tlwwsmqnhcfjmmsdpvl220c84ye5ccwm3eskkqhcp
If you're referring to the covid pandemic, even the WHO declared and end to that over a year ago.... At best it's endemic, so I'm just asking for clarity you mongoloid.
I'm sorry, I thought you were gaslighting me and wasting my time with bullshit, because you were. I'm not apologizing, that would be silly when I was correct - there's just some tiny part of me that does feel sorry for you, being who you are.
I wish i knew more people in my small town who were interested in btc. I think small groups meeting at a coffee shop or restaurant is a great way to grow your btc network. Too many people and it gets chaotic.
I don't think I would need to worry about too many people. The issue more likely will be just me meeting with myself.
Yeah, i feel like that sometimes too. They do have meetups in austin, about an hr away, but i hate driving in austin. Everywhere in austin is crowded, plus too many wokies. There's a guy in my town who had mentioned that he might put an ad in our local paper about a meetup, to see if there's interest. But havent seen anything.
I'd put up a table somewhere with a sign just inviting passerby to chat about Bitcoin and nostr. A laptop or tablet with a screen open to the Bitcoin price chart might also help ensure a nonzero number of people
There's one in my area but I've not been yet.
I'm an anarchist and circular economy user. I'm interested in seeing who else is. Looks like a lot of meetups talk about things other than what I'm interested in.
Beyond BTC I would love to build a local network based on v4v. I think BTC is a common thread to start finding those folks.
I started a freedom cell here 3 years ago (offshoot of the greater metro one I'm in) and we do a lot of skill shares and trades. A few of us are btc users. Some want to learn how, but haven't prioritized it.
We weren't based on btc, we all found each other and got together during the height of the covaids hysteria.
I go to one about 45 minutes away. But I have a lot of gripes.
Too much talk about number go up
To much time spent debating shitcoiners
Not enough circular economy
Not enough tech discussion/demos
Ideally for me there would be 2 meetups monthly, one that is circular economy focused where people bring their stuff and sell it and we have beers and talk bitcoin. Another where it's tech focused and we drink beer around our laptops and discuss what we're working on, maybe get help from each other or demo some new bitcoin technology, or help new folks get on boarded.
