The whole narrative around war is propaganda. From war being “just” to the dead troops being heroes rather than duped or coerced victims.

I see. my view of them, especially these days, is that every soldier is duped and victimized.

there just aren't too many situations where war was entirely unavoidable.

Back in Nelson’s day there was no pretence it was not about money. He was basically a state licensed pirate who was allowed to keep a large share of the gold and other valuables captured from the enemy ships . Even the lowest cabin boy on board got a share of the “prize” .
