Idk about you folks, but I'm really paranoid about AI in your phone (apple) and ai on your laptop(windows), I've stopped using both.

I believe we are going to see a sequence of rug pulls where AI leaks your passwords (probably unintentionally) , but if someone else can track you across your apps even if it is AI. It's just adding another entity that can leak things.

I’m not worried about AI in my phone if it is disconnected from the internet and my apps.

It’s a bit like giving my phone to my daughter to play games. She’ll probably not start writing stuff on nostr.

But the latest apple phones and windows laptops are not disconnected, they are literally scanning your texts and everything, I run self hosted AI models on my devices. I'm fine with the tech as well, I'm really worried about the stuff that's been handed out as upgrades to users by these "big tech" companies. Even google is doing it with Gemini, but at least we have option to swap out OS' there

All the scanning, AI and ML are apparently device-based only unless you dial into the Apple servers which is end-to-end encrypted so Apple don’t see or store stuff. For the ChatGPT integration you decide whether to give it permission. That all said, it’s all based on trust so who the feck knows what might happen.

You can fuck here 😂

Also Whatsapp is e2e as well, but who knows what they scan before sending your data over, what goes as telemetry data.

The devil is always in the details.

Yep. No one really knows and yet many still trust/use it.

I don’t trust it but still use it 🤷

AI is going to kill us all, but until then, I'm getting it to generate pictures of boobs 😂

Not sure if it can kill you yet, but it can make you very vulnerable to hacks or scams.

Think how capable it could be at social engineering!

Apple is supposedly using on-device models on iPhone 16, with only some stuff going to chatgpt which I hear is also optional and can be disabled

Sure ..

They had to create a new chip just to do this well.

I'm no one to question the overlords, I'm just protecting myself from their wrath and letting anybody else know that's interested. Dont mean to hurt the feelings of their followers.

which is why it's encouraging that open source is winning. The newer the model the less capable at some things it is because they are being neutered by the thought police

like the early stable-diffusion stuff is easier to work with than this months models

Fine tuned versions of things like Llama70B are going to outperform corporate models in the end.

The good news is we are probably two years away from these being self hostable on local machines. So I think this issue will become a non-issue and harder open AI and google try the worse they make it.

Which is also why googles models suck so bad even though they invented the whole thing

I love self hosted models, I'm not too sure of it becoming a non-issue though, it's not just about the models themselves being open but all the plumbing in between as well.
