Unless I missed it, this article doesn't mention if Google will end their WiFi ssid location mapping service.

I don't even use Google Maps anymore. There are open source alternatives like Magic Earth and Osmand.

#Magic Earth isn't not #opensource or even publicly available code. Furthermore, they stated that they won't or can't reveal the code.

Perhaps you meant #OrganicMaps which is fully open source and available on #Fdroid...?
