I just joined Nostr via the Amethyst client. Trying to figure out how to set my username and profile pic. Can anybody point me to a tutorial?

Welcome to nostr. I am new here as well.
From what I figured so far there are many clients with varying levels of functionality / completeness state. I am using Amethyst on my Android which works fine but not able to find way how to set profile picture.
My main desktop (Windows) client is gossip which also does not implement profile picture uploads.
I found that Iris (for Windows) allows me to set my profile picture so I have set the pic from there and it synchronized across the networks so both Amethyst and gossip now show it properly!
Its bit clunky but between the three clients I think I have all the functionality I need.

It's helpful to also use iris.to on pc in addition to amethyst on Android. (Different features for different clients at different stages of implementation)
The good thing about amethyst is adjusting the relays, especially useful for filtering out spam on the global feed. Bit fiddly and I'm no expert, but you might want to explore that after you've looked around the place a bit. Exploring hashtags is a good start;)

Remember to never use your Nsec on anything.
