Isn't a geohash just a not-so-standard way of writing latitude/longitude?

Would be neat if there was a way to cryptographically prove you were somewhere...🤔

Yep, the main point of Geohashes is that you can crop them in 1D to decrease resolution in 2D. It's actually quite cool.
