Sure anyone speaking against a dictator is a threat, albeit I personally wouldn't term Putin a dictator. The guy had foreign assistance, similar to that nutcase actor in Ukraine. I think he was a Western operative, working to start a similar color revolution, as the one that achieved a coup in Ukraine.

With that said, it's possible the Western influences he was working with could have killed him, no reason for Putin to kill him. Just a thought, a lot going on in the background over there.
