I just remembered how my grand grandmother studied "Family school." In my time it was considered something obsolete.

She was highly trained in housekeeping and births. Professional midwife, housekeeper and cook. I've heard many times how hard the work was, but also to study hard to avoid this kind of work with hands. Academy is life.

Two decades later I can't express how much respect I'd have for someone who can mend clothes during waiting for second stage of labor of some smith's wife, while planning what to buy and cook on Sunday for paying upper class family. Hands of gold. So much management, skill and nerves of steel.

I wish there was better education available on this stuff today. I want to be a well rounded administrator of my home and a little finishing school too would have been nice. And I don't want to read a 100 book of everyone's ideas on the topic. I don't have time for that.

Home mech in our area just teaches kids to sew a pillow case and use the microwave to cook fait food. What a disgrace compared to what it was.
