Cosmos are native to Mexico so the climate where I'm at is too cold here to rely on self-seeding. If you have one show up I'd try gathering the seeds for next year. They are easily started from seed and grow quickly. I actually started these too early indoors and they got a bit leggy. A friend just scatters them in his garden in the spring and just lets them do their own thing.
