Does growing Nostr adoption necessarily require monetizing it to sustain it? I understand that a new entrepreneurial opportunity is standing before us, and that is always enticing, and I believe anyone deserves fair compensation for their time, resources, and expertise. So I’m not asking if it can be, or even if it should or should not be, but rather MUST it be monetized in order to grow it?

Over time I imagine a good chunk of relays will either be ad-supported or paid, with the rest being free volunteer run.
As long as the ads aren’t excessive, of low quality, or try to somehow intrude on user privacy, i don’t think it’s an unreasonable way to fund relays.
Relays will have a hard time generating real ad revenue when only a users content is known about him. For this reason, I expect paid relays to ultimately become the norm.
If you find how to run a relay for free I’m all ears. Would love me some free energy.
I'm already paying for relays.
