They were in the right place at the right time and they still fumbled the bag by listening to the noise and tuning out the signal, since the signal hurt their feels.

It makes sense why they are the way they are. Ruined a one in a lifetime opportunity and have to live with nothing but regrets as they watch the rich leap frog them quickly
