Having ridden a lot of Amtrak, year after year because not a car owner for a decade in my early professional life, it is America. Every state border changes the nature of the cars’ inhabitation, add another layer at the change south of DC vs north of DC which is very noticeable. North is business, South is sociability, emphasized by the change of crew. It’s quite striking.
