Unpopular view on Epstein/Maxwell:

Even though it's reprehensible that old men would engage with teenage girls, it is very common for abused and runaway girls to willingly enter into prostitution at the age of 14 or 15. The "age of consent" is a tool to enable parents to shield their girls from being taken advantage of, to protect their modesty and purity.

Once a girl leaves the home, the parents have lost their ability to protect their daughters. Yes, ideally society helps parents protect their daughters, but by the time they have seeked out prostitution, the damage is done. These girls "recruited" by Gislaine, from what I hear, were already in this category.

Doesn’t matter what category they’re in.

Also, the abuse of the girls is the least of what these criminals did.

What matters is who’s getting arrested for it.

And hanged. I would like to see the hanging part.

Yup, that will require the citizenry to act

We need organization of some kind. The only thing that has ever broken the lull is an event.

I read that most women who enter the porn industry are from this population as well. Abused and/or homeless. Sad.

I agree with you, but I also think you describe only a small part of the picture. Young girls are primed to see sex as a pleasure tool. It is deemed perfectly normal to have tens of sexual partners by the 20s - that’s body count that I don’t have in my 40s and I believe I still won’t have when I die. Sex is intentionally stripped of intimacy and converted to currency. And because supply of women is endless, the value of that currency rapidly falls. Prostitution was always an option for low-income women, but now it thrives among all classes. Sex workers are almost idolised, while their customers are vilified. This society intentionally manufactures girls who see sex as a path to easy, almost risk-free money. And when they are caught in the net, they find out that it is extremely difficult to get out.

And parents are also to blame for some non-trivial part. For last few decades, we try to give our children very open sex education. We try to demystify sex, we are teaching about consent, we try to do the best for our children. But it sure seems like injecting back some modesty to the upbringing would be beneficial to the society.

And yes, I have a daughter rapidly coming into that age and it starts to give me sleepless nights.
