Two, ultimately incompatible, forms of civilization came to bloody competition for their way of life.
We won. They lost.
Can we do this now?
The larger the power, the more unconventional/deniable the measures used to topple must be.
Consequence of nuclear proliferation. Instead of bombs, you get scamdemics and DEW wildfires.
What about at a small scale? Can someone go and conquer someone else’s land?
Example, can I come to your property and claim it, fight for it, whoever wins keeps it?
Of course not.
Minor point, but I would argue that, in this case, the conquerors brought/established civilization. It might be acurate to classify the Native tribes as societies but I'm not sure about a civilization.
