I just started growing sunchokes. I hope they do well, so excited!
Question, I bought the bulbs late in the summer, they are sprouted, probably 8” tall, tertiary leaves, we probably have two more months before we will probably get a hard frost. Is the best strategy to move them indoors, or let them be in the ground? It never gets to be colder than maybe 25 here and only for short periods of storm weather in the winter. My plan is to scale them for pig food, so low or no maintenance is paramount.
Once they're in the ground it's best to leave them there until it's time to eat or spread them. Their speciality is surviving long harsh winters in the ground, but they die quickly in storage.
Even if a tiny portion of one bulb survives to Spring a whole plant will grow.
Thank you, I’ll see what happens come spring!
