Alright alright alright. I got Umbrel running on Ubuntu running in a virtual machine. I have the rust private NOSTR relay running. If I want that relay to be public I need to connect the private IP address (LAN?) to a public IP address (WAN?)…..uh, I got nothing. Old blue collar cowboy doesn’t speak nettatalk.

I think you could make it public through tor.
Everyone that knows the address and is on tor could connect.
If that’s not what you want then you probably need to have public ip with your isp. Then bind your isp ip to domain. E.g. you could use afraid.org
Then you only need to make your relay port to be accessible
Thank you, I’ll check out your mentions. I use a router based VPN, it seems close, the missing link is going from the 10.0.1.x ip range to the public IP of the VPN. Maybe it is a routing table thing, but that level of Linux is over my head at this point. I’m pretty quick at learning from YouTube, but most of the resources there assume I understand basic concepts that I don’t yet understand.
It might be that your public IP is the onofvtge VPN then. Do you host it yourself or is it a service?
Either way, try looking at port forwarding
What you need to achieve is a relay port to be accessible on your public entry point
Geez, the autocorrect is not that great. I hate typing from the phone
