Lawns. Just about every suburban house has one but how much time, effort and money do we put into maintaining that green carpet just so it can look like everyone else's front yard?

As #geofflawton said, the only good use for lawn is to turn it into mulch! So that's what I've started doing. Over time I've been converting edge spaces into strips of garden and now I'm tackling the main space to landscape the front yard into a productive food growing space.

Part one was to mark out the space in the shape I wanted to blend into the other existing garden spaces, then shred as much as I could with the edger to make life easier when it comes to ripping out the grass.
