I now strongly recommend not doing image downscaling in the device :) image proxies rock even at a cost of paying servers to do it...
I like not relying on too much external infrastructure. less brittle.

Me too. But the gains are considerable.
Although I definitely would like an image proxy option in app for privacy without having to go the full vpn route
