The importany question at play here is the ability to act as though something were true without allowing it to cloud your rationality. I don't have to abandon my disdain for category errors in order to live my life according to a narrative that contains them, just as a good story can inspire me even if it has plot holes. But most people have difficulty being fervent about anything that isn't literal.
On a side note, Clint really showed how shallow his thinking can be. It's sad to see in a man of great courage.
